BEIJING, May 1 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Commerce on Friday expressed strong opposition to the latest U.S. move seeking to impose restrictions targeting test and certification as well as telecom-related sectors, urging the United States to stop its wrong practices immediately.
These remarks came after the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted measures on Thursday that would disqualify testing and certification bodies from countries without mutual recognition agreements with the United States and prohibit entities on the so-called "covered list" from providing telecommunications services in the United States.
"The FCC has abandoned the principle of technology neutrality, overstretched the concept of national security, and repeatedly imposed restrictive measures without factual basis, discriminating against enterprises and products from China and other countries," said a ministry spokesperson.
The move has seriously harmed the interests of China and other relevant trading partners, the spokesperson noted, adding that such measures undermine the hard-won stability of China-U.S. economic and trade relations and run counter to the consensus reached by the two heads of state.
"If implemented, these measures will severely disrupt the international economic and trade order, destabilize global industrial and supply chains in telecommunications, electronics and related fields, impact global industrial cooperation and technological innovation, and also harm the interests of U.S. industries and consumers, affecting the security of the U.S. supply chain itself," the spokesperson said.
China calls on the U.S. side to heed the concerns of the industry, respect market rules, stop its wrong practices and revoke the relevant measures, the spokesperson stated.
"Should the U.S. side insist on going its own way, China will take necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises," the spokesperson added.
